Female trends

Who are the most important women of our times? Passing through great political characters, famous models, pop stars and actresses, we can see that the female world is always more rich in artistic personalities of absolute importance, internationally recognised for their extraordinary talent, from cinema to music, from design to photography, passing through to the more disparate forms of art work.

Trendypedia is a project of TEA, which collects the greatest trends of the moment and puts together the most important names among designers, stylists and artists, beyond also looking at new lifestyles and the coolest places of the moment.

We began there, searching among the most appreciated feminine figures of the moment, from the A of Marina Abramovic to the Z of Jamila Zbanic.

marina abramovic Abramovic, Marina
Born in Belgrade in 1946, she is a very active artist in the field of Performance Art; hers is an artistic form, which upsets the traditional canons of space and time, upsetting the relationship between the artist and public. Her work can surround you or can be enacted in particular place with a group of people.
Beecroft, Vanessa
Italian artist born in 1969, resident in New York. She uses a very unusual artistic language, in between performance and documentary art, drawing continuous inspiration from Renaissance pictures. Her performances are strictly linked to the cultural, artistic, and political environment of the place hosting her.

cocoroise Cocoroise
Two American sisters, Sierra and Bianca, who represent one of the most eclectic and un-classifiable formations of music in the present day. The guitars acoustics are between blues and folk, while the lo-fi electronic background, the games of the sometimes-infantile voices, the imprecise percussions and the touch of the psychedelic, make their sound a cauldron of evocations.
Craven, Ann
American artist born in 1974. An assistant to Alex Katz, her paintings have developed a Pop Art image very similar to that of Andy Warhol. She draws animals in a naturalistic background made of flowers, grass and the sky.

Fridriksdóttir, Gabriela Fridriksdóttir, Gabriela
Icelandic artist who recently exhibited at the Venice Biennale Versation/Tetralogiam, a multi-media exposition including paintings, sculptures, videos and music in an attempt to explore emotions and desires in our times.
Fischer Christensen, Pernille
The Danish Pernille Fischer Christensen shone in the cinema with the film “En soap”, which won a “Gran Premio della Giuria Migliore Opera Prima al Festival di Berlin 2006” (Grand prize before the Berlin Festival). Influenced by the aesthetics of Lars Von Trier, she is now about to release her second film “Dancers”, one of the most anticipated films of 2008.

Fischer Christensen, Pernille Grisebach, Valeska
Valeska Grisebach was born in Brema in 1968. She studied Philosophy, and German Literature at Berlin, Monaco and Vienna. From 1993 to 2001, she attended the Academy of Cinema in Vienna. She has worked for television, produced documentaries, and released “Mein Stern” in 2001(My Star) and “Sehnsucht” (Longing) in Berlin in 2006
Hadid, Zaha
Born in Iraq in 1950, she is an internationally recognised architect, winner of numerous and prestigious competitions, even if some of her projects have never been built. She is a part of the current artistic movement of de-constructionism, which looks to deconstructing traditional forms, transforming them into a definite construction “without geometry”. She won the Pritzker Prize in 2004, becoming the first female winner.
Fischer Christensen, Pernille
Fischer Christensen, Pernille Kusama, Yayoi
Japanese artist, born in 1929, lived for years, by choice, in a psychiatric clinic. Famous for painting, sculpting, performance and installation which as a leit motif have cluttered images and repetition, her works are suspended between minimalism, surrealism and pop art, all veined with an accentuated feminism, creating at the end a strong effect of estrangement and confusion. Another typical effect is the utilisation of polka dots.
Kruger, Barbara
American photographer born in 1945. She was a graphic designer for various artistic departments and for various fashion magazines. Her most famous works are huge advertising posters with women as the focal image in black and white with different slogans on red backgrounds with very direct messages.

From this climate of battle, her ferocious hip-hop was born, close to funk genres, grime, reggae and dance hall.
McCartney, Stella

A vegetarian and convinced animal activist, she has worked on the production of clothes which do not include maltreating animals, including Gucci, Chloe, Adidas and H&M, beyond also launching CARE, a special line of cosmetic products.
